CFO Coalition marketing site

As a digital consultant for the United Nations Global Compact, I develop and continually improve websites with a corporate sustainability focus. The CFO Coalition for the Sustainable Development Goals (cfocoalition.org) is a growing initiative within the UN with more than 70 participating CFOs pledging capital investments to support sustainable development targets.

The team asked me to redevelop the site with a clarified user journey and accessible content. Through stakeholder interviews and workshops, we identified two main pain points for the site's audience:

  • CFOs need visibility for their sustainable finance efforts in order to attract capital from investors
  • Corporate sustainability professionals need to better understand sustainable finance so they incorporate it into their work

I began by mapping out the information architecture of the existing site, including several complex, cross-referenced data tables.

Analyzing the information structure, I identified content clusters to aid navigation through sometimes incongruous categories.

In developing the brief and problem statement, I broke out the most important user groups and their needs and user flows.

I articulated the problem statement as a set of hypotheses and outcomes, enabling a more objective evaluation of design success.

I broke down the membership offering to identify key value propositions for users.

I translated the membership structure to marketing segments, leading to a strategic realignment at the leadership level.

I developed user stories for each user type, articulating the ideals of the site as a content and reporting tool in addition to marketing and publicity functions.

I developed a draft user persona based on implicit knowledge from existing materials and stakeholder interviews, and wrote a detailed user research proposal.

I conducted a detailed competitive analysis of websites in the sustainable finance reporting space, directly informing the approach to information structure, navigation, and visual design.

I wireframed multiple layout options for the homepage to generate feedback and discussion.

I developed proposals for new features to increase the accessibility of site content and directly serve user's goals.

I created several high-fidelity mockups to test layouts, copy, images, and alignment with UN brand guidelines and assets.
